As the Rio Olympics enter the final few days, we are holding on to our second position in the medals table. At this stage of the London Games Team GB had won 52 medals as compared to the 56 they’ve already won in Rio. Rio is already our most successful away games, and the team are 8 medals ahead of their pre-games target so the question is now:
Can we make this our most successful games ever and beat our London total?
It was another good day for Team GB yesterday with gold for Jade Jones in the Taekwando, gold and silver for the Brownlee brothers in the triathlon (Alistair retaining his title from London), Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark finally secured their gold in the sailing. There was also a silver in the kayaking for Liam Heath and Jon Schofield and an unexpected Badminton bronze for Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge. Well done all!
Today is the hockey final with our ladies vying with the Netherlands to take gold. Ben Maher and Nick Skelton will both be putting their horses through their paces in the showjumping final. Charley Hull is doing well in the golf – she’s currently in joint third , let’s hope she continues to perform well in the final round tomorrow. Finally, Tom Daley is also in action today, beginning his campaign to improve on his bronze medal in the individual 10m dive.
