Sharing a Healthy Approach to Life
How It All Started
My passion about health and a desire to help others began at an early age. But it was when I was 14, working after school at a medical centre that I had my first experience observing in a waiting room the state of health in my town. Often I would see the same people repeatedly – I didn’t know what was wrong but they didn’t seem healthy or happy for that matter.
Fast forward to age 17, I found myself in the reception of a chiropractic practice. What I witnessed was far different: people were vibrant, healthy looking and most importantly, happy – they seemed in control of their health and I wanted to know why.
The desire to be a chiropractor was born; I had found my calling and dedicated my time studying at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic. A world-renowned college, known for its vitalistic approach to chiropractic and health. Being part of the biggest natural, drugless profession in the world, I discovered that health shouldn’t just be repaired when it is broken but it should be maintained and nurtured. This was the reason why I witnessed such healthy, happy and vibrant people in the chiropractor’s office.
It wasn’t that the medical centre was failing its patients. Their patients were coming in because they were sick and required help. What was different about the chiropractic centre was the approach to inspiring healthier lifestyles.
My Personal Chiropractic Journey
From the age of 17, I have enjoyed the benefits of regular chiropractic care. At this age I was busy with my final years of high school education, trying to play as much sport as I could and also working at a busy local restaurant. Wanting to have more focus and to perform better in sport and education, I was encouraged to go along to my father’s chiropractor.
Prior to chiropractic training, while undertaking the necessary medical foundation course at university, I witnessed first-hand the tremendous benefits of maintaining a chiropractic lifestyle. Living with 34 other tertiary students in shared accommodation, it was common knowledge that illness would be passed around more quickly than pass the parcel at a child’s birthday. But when the illnesses came and went I remained well. I ate the same food, drank the same drinks and lived in the same environment so why didn’t I get sick? Looking back at why the only key difference was that I was seeing my chiropractor. My nervous system, the master controller of my body, was working as well as it could, boosting my immune system and providing a solid defence against getting sick.
I love to share my healthy approach to life with others. Through a natural chiropractic lifestyle, I find that I am able to move more easily and recover more quickly from body fatigue, I’m more resistant to the common illnesses we find bouncing from person to person and I’m also more productive with more energy and better concentration. This is because chiropractic care focuses its attention primarily on the nervous system and provides appropriate gentle adjustments to the spine. These adjustments reduce the build-up of tension, which can effect nerve communication throughout my body. A free-flowing nervous system is able to regulate my body functions optimally, which means better health and wellbeing.
Chiropractic in Shropshire
I have practiced in the United Kingdom since early 2009 when I moved here from my home country, New Zealand. I established Shrewsbury Family Chiropractic in 2011. Previously I held associate positions in York, Brighton and Manchester. My wife Rosalind and I chose to live in Shropshire to be close to family connections. Now with our young daughter, we all enjoy the rural nature of the county and are often out and about in the hills exploring.
Chiropractic for Children and Pregnancy
Chiropractic for children has been a special interest of mine. I enjoy attending regular seminars for providing focused care during pregnancy and care for new-borns, infants, children and adolescents. I am a supporting member of the International Chiropractic Paediatrics Association.
I Love Being a Chiropractor & Helping People
Essentially, chiropractic is about helping the body to help itself. I love being a chiropractor and helping people to achieve a higher level of health and wellbeing through regular chiropractic care, natural nutritional and exercise advice and a positive mental attitude. This natural form of health care increases your potential on every level: mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. It is extremely satisfying to be part of a positive, proactive model of health care.
I have enjoyed working with a wide variety of people, from sports enthusiasts to professional business persons as well as young children and the not so young. So far I have had the pleasure of providing regular chiropractic care to an infant as young as 2 days right up to a very lovely healthy agile 91 year old.
