Team GB had a brilliant day yesterday adding to their medal tally of 16 (one more at this stage compared to 2012). GB won their fourth gold medal as the men’s cycling sprint team retained their title from 2012. In the rowing, Katherine Grainger became Team GB’s most decorated female Olympian after winning silver in the double skulls with Victoria Thornley. They were outstanding as pundits didn’t fancy their chances of medalling after a patchy and inconsistent previous 2 years. Well done ladies. Today it’s over to Helen Glover and Heather Stanning in the rowing, which starts from 13:30 (Women’s final 15:00).
In the men’s rugby sevens, although they performed brilliantly in the earlier rounds, their opponents were a step too far last night as Fiji became the first rugby sevens champions. There was also a silver in the men’s double canoe C2.
Andy Murray faces the USA’s Steve Johnson in the Tennis Quarterfinal later today (16:00) as he hopes to stay on schedule to retain is gold medal from 2012.
There is the start of the athletics this evening with Jessica Ennis-Hill and Katarina Johnson-Thompson participating in the heptathlon. Can Jessica retain her Olympic title or will Katarina give her a run for her money.
Team GB are back in the velodrome with the cycling for the team sprint (women) and pursuit (men) finals from 20:00.
So a big day all round, but how many additions to the medal table can Team GB manage today?
