A week in and Team GB seem to have found their stride with yesterday’s haul pushing them up to third in the overall medals table – go Team GB!!!!!
The men’s cycling pursuit team set a new world record to win gold, making Bradley Wiggins the first Brit to win 8 Olympic gold medals. Gold also for our rowers – Heather Stanning and Helen Glover in the pairs, and Alex Gregory, George Nash, Constantine Louloudis and Mohamed Sbihi in the fours. There is more rowing and track cycling action today. The women’s and men’s rowing eights have both qualified for their respective finals. The women’s cycling pursuit team broke the world record in qualification so they must be favourites for the final.
Our track and field athletes made a good start yesterday with Jessica Ennis-Hill finishing the first day of the heptathlon in first position and Katerina Johnson-Thompson not far behind (Katerina also broke the British high jump record). Greg Rutherford made it into the long jump final (by the skin of his teeth) – he and Jessica will both be contesting their London 2012 golds later on today.
Also worth a mention is our surprise silver medal in the trampoline; Bryony Page won the first ever British medal for women’s trampoling – well done Bryony.
Let’s hope this winning streak continues. Will today be another Super Saturday?
