I don’t know about you, but I was up way too late last night, caught up in the drama in the velodrome! First of all, Laura Trott earned her fourth olympic gold by winning the women’s omnium, then Jason Kenny had an anxious and frustrating wait for the men’s keirin final – first the runners up race had to be restarted following an early crash, then the gold medal race was restarted not once, but twice because the riders were so eager to get moving. As well as Laura and Jason’s success, Becky James won silver and Katy Marchant bronze which means that every member of the cycling team has won at least one medal – that’s pretty good going!
Our gymnasts have also continued doing well with Amy Tinkler and Nile Wilson both winning bronze in their individual events.
Overall, we are now ahead of where we were in London at this stage of the games.
Coming up today is the show jumping individual competition featuring Nick Skelton and Ben Maher. Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark are guaranteed gold if they finish the 470 sailing medal race and Mo Farah starts his defence of his London title in the 5,000m heats. At 9pm it’s the face off between New Zealand and Team GB in the women’s hockey semi-final. Then, in the early hours of Thursday morning, there is plenty of athletics action on the track including chiropractic fan Usain Bolt in the 200m semi-finals.
