Dame Sarah Storey and Hannah Cockroft have both won their second gold medals of the Rio Paralympics, as Team GB beat London the 2012 record. Paralympics GB had a prolific evening session, winning 10 medals in the space of an hour in the pool and in athletics.
Cockroft won the T34 400m in a world record time (with Kare Adenegan taking bronze), while Storey won her C5 time trial. She was one of three time-trial gold medallists, including Karen Darke and Steven Bate.
Kadeena Cox set a world record time in her T38 400m taking gold, while Sophie Wells was victorious in the grade 4 individual dressage.
In the pool, Aaron Moores and Scott Quin won a one-two in the mens 100m Breaststroke, and Micheal Jones and Jonathon Fox matching them in the 400m Freestyle. Hannah Russell knocked nine tenths off her own world record to take gold in the 100m Backstroke.
Andy Lapthorne added to his medal haul with a silver in the wheelchair tennis, after taking bronze in the doubles the other day. Team GB’s flag bearer Lee Pearson won silver in the grade Ib dressage – taking his Paralympic Games medal tally to 13.
Lora Turnham (with pilot Corrine Hall) took bronze in the tandem time trial, with 16 year old Maria Lyle winning bronze in the T35 100m final. David Stone (who won Gold at London 2012) took bronze in the men’s tricycle time trial. Team GB’s wheelchair basketball delivered their best performance to beat Australia in the quarterfinals.
