Team GB Paralympics - What's on Today

Team GB surpass London 2012 medal tally on day nine!

There Golds across different sports from Gordon Reid (wheelchair tennis), Hannah Cockroft (800m), Sophie Christiansen (swimming relay), Lee Pearson and Natasha Baker (dressage), Paul Blake (400m), David Smith (Boccia), and John Walker (archery).

Also medalling, Sophie Wells and Anne Dunham won silver in the dressage, with silvers for cyclist David Stone and Andrew Marren in the 50m backstroke.

In the team event table tennis, Will Bayley, Aaron McKibbin and Ross Wilson won bronze. Also winning bronze was Dan Greaves in the Discus throwing

But what about today? How many more medals can Paralympics GB add to the tally?

Dame Sarah Storey is in action again today in the road race from 13:30 and aiming for more success in these games, and to retain her London 2012 title. Also in the road race is Kadeen Cox and Cyrstal Lane. Also in the cycling, tandem pairs of Adam Bate with Steven Duggleby and Lora Turnham with Corrine Hall will be in the road races today (17:00).

Team GB take on Turkey in the men’s bronze medal match in wheelchair basketball from 13:45.

In the archery, there are a few contenders today in the W1 event – Jo Frith, Jess Stretton and Vicky Jenkins, with Stretton at only 16 years of age. This event starts at 13:00 with the final at 15:09. Stretton is also in the W1 team event with John Walker (final at 21:35) who are already European and World Champions.

Today has the final swimming session with Ollie Hynd in the pool defending his 200m individual medley event (21:43) which would see him obtain the clean sweep of the Commonwealth, European, World and Paralympic crowns. Hannah Russel is also back in the pool with the 50m freestyle (22:06) and Bethany Firth in the 200m (00:08). Ellie Robinson and Ellie Simmonds are in the 100m freestyle heats from 13:40 (final at 21:36). It’s a big weekend for Team GB’s youngest member, Abby Kane (13yoa) as she takes to the pool in the 100m backstroke.

On the track, Paul Blake aims to show his strength in the 800m (23:23) with wheelchair racer Jade Jones also in the 800m (21:53). Earlier in the day, Stephen Osborne is in the 400m final (14:54)
