So last night saw the Paralympics opening ceremony, with Lee Pearson (10-time Olympic equestrian champion) as Team GB’s flag bearer. There were spectacular stunts as Rio welcomed athletes from all around the world to begin their Paralympic quest.
Looking forward to today, keep your eye out for action in the velodrome and the pool. Dame Sarah Storey is in the velodrome in the C5 pursuit (qualifying 15:19 and the final 21:12), with her team mate Megan Giglia is also in the pursuit (C1-3).
Champions from London 2012 are in action today, including Ollie Hynd (21:44), Jon Fox (00:44 Friday) and Bethany Firth (23:16). Ollie will be in the pool in the 400m freestyle, Jon in the 100m backstroke and Bethany also in the 100m backstroke.
In the athletics, Libby Clegg in the T11 100m heats (14:30) and both Kadeena Cox and Sophie Hahn in the T38 100m (00:12 Friday). Kadeena is also competing in the cycling at this Paralympics. In the T44 100m heats, there is Jonnie Peacock the defending champion, starting at 21:42.
The wheelchair basketball also starts today with the men vs Algeria (15:45) and the women are up against the world champions Canada (13:30)
The seven a side football also gets underway with their opening match against Brazil (14:00).
McKibbin starts his campaign in the Table Tennis at 13:00 against Bourvais of France. Later sees Facey trie his luck against Perez Gonzales of Spain (15:00). At 16:20 sees Wetherill face Egypt’s Hamadtou, and Davies faces Keller of Switzerland at 20:00. Of the women, Campbell is playing against Li of China at 14:20, and Head against Swedish Ahlquist at 22:00.
Plenty of gold medal chances to be grabbed today.
